Behind the scenes at The Red Flora Photo Shoot

Again, it has been a while since I last posted... I have been so busy creating a new collection of designs, and time just slips away!

So here are some snap shots from the behind the scenes of the latest photo shoot... and a few of the professional ones at the end.

We decided that curls, braids and flowers would go nicely with the clothing. To take a look at my inspiration for The Red Flora Collection, please look here.

I had this idea for a group shot, and it is always very hard to get what I have in my head, out into reality, but it worked!

We didn't realise during the middle of our shoot, that the children from the local school would be our backdrop! I think they had fun at least.

The idea was a sophisticated, Penelope Red picnic.

the park had these amazing views!

So from 8am til 3:30pm we fussed and worked our butts off- not to mention the numerous days of work I put in to create the designs.

And this is what we came up with... ( a little sneak peek of some of the shots):

Behind the scenes: Penelope Red Autumn Photo Shoot part 3

The following photos are a few more behind the scenes images from our photo shoot day for The Red Queen Collection! You can take a look at the previous postings of other behind the scenes photos here and here.

Above Chris and Lucy are creating the hair and make up for Monica's look!

Lucy P. in the Nephthys Black and White Silk Blouse and Monica in the Cleopatra Deco Gold Sequinned Top.

Make up artist, Lucy, applying fake eye lashes to Mariene. I loved Lucy's quote of the day: "More is more!"- we all agreed!

Above, Lucy P. wearing the Spinx Orange Blouse and the Hathor Olive Pants.

Above, Bryn, from BlueDoorsStudios is taking the group shot of the girls together. It takes a lot of work to get this shot looking its best- as you not only need to get the correct lighting, but all of the girl looking thier best at the exact same time!

the stunning jewellery pieces we borrowed from Shirley- a designer at The Rocks Markets. These are actually necklaces, but for some reason, they just felt so right to become head pieces!

The beautiful Mariene modeling the Olive Silk and Antique Lace Mermaids Dress.

More designs will be added to the Penelope Red shop online in Australian Dollars and American Dollars over the next few weeks. Some designs are already added!

Inspirations for "The Red Hour" Summer Collection

As stated before in the "creating the Red Hour Collection" posting, I was inspired by what I would like to wear to a cocktail bar or party.

Then I liked the idea of changing "The Cocktail hour" to "The Red Hour". My ideas just seemed to flow after that. Now all my designs are named after classic cocktails! When researching cocktail names, I found this old poster, conveniently named, The Cocktail Hour!

The below shot is another shot that helped to inspire the team involved in the photo shoot. I like the idea of the model lounging around on the lounge chair, but I also wanted a few less "posey" shots, and have some fun with it. So we did both.

All of the Penelope Red handmade creations are available to purchase at The Rocks Markets, and they will be listed in the Penelope Red online shop soon.

Olga was a such a lovely person to work with. Very professional, and very friendly. Beautiful on the inside and out, in my opinion!

Olga has Ukrainian and Russian heritage, and is from Russia originally, but making Australia her home.

You can see more of Olga's portfolio on Model Mayhem.

Silk Ikats of Central Asia: Art Gallery of NSW

Yesterday I visited the Art Gallery of NSW to view their latest exhibition, Silk Ikats of Central Asia.

While it was a small exhibit, the displayed items were extremely beautiful, and very inspiring for my work!

The embroideries, colours, detail, patterns, prints, and textures were just simply stunning, and it truly is amazing how much work is involved in each piece. It is astounding that each and every piece was created by hand, and it really inspires me to want to create more hand worked pieces.

I would recommend this exhibit to anyone who is interested in or enjoys needlework/craft, printing, fashion, costume, cultural and historical backgrounds.

After viewing the works at the gallery, I returned home full of inspiration for my latest Penelope Red designs! I am hoping to base my latest designs and next photo shoot on these costumes, colours, bold embroideries, and exotic jewellery. It will be quite exciting to see it all together, and I can't wait to show you!

Please note, not all images displayed in this post are from the gallery exhibition. Some of the images I found on the net.

The shape of the Penelope Red Hooded Coat is perfect to reflect the robes, the mini skirts I have made so far reflect the bold colours, and the textured embroideries.
