It is such a joy to see my customers wearing their Penelope Red designs (rather than them wasting away inside their wardrobe)! So here are a few recent favourite pics...

I have to admit, this one is of me!

I am wearing the Aqua and Vintage Braid Tunic Top. I wore this top all the way through pregnancy - even right up to giving birth- and it still manages to bounce back and keep its shape!!!! This exact style is sold out, but next winter I plan to make more of this in a slightly different version. 

Lorelle wears the Black Latin Bolero, the Gold Mosaic Gathered Neck Blouse, and the Black and White Diamond Printed Pencil Skirt. 

Penny wears the Black Russian Lace Dress.

Nicole wears the Blue V-neck Top w Black Satin Stripe Chiffon Sleeves, together with the Silver and Black Drama Skirt.

Winter Colours Liberty Wool Bolero

Introducing the very latest design. the Penelope Red Winter Colours Liberty Wool Bolero!



I featured a little posting about the gorgeous Liberty designed fabric used in this jacket a few days ago, and this is the finished hand made product.

This bolero jacket will look great with a dark pair of jeans during the day; beautiful with a navy blue or black dress during the night; and great for the office with a black pair of pants.

This has been made from a Liberty printed 100% wool, in a beautiful winter colour palette of flowers and leaves. The bolero has been interlined with a 100% cotton fabric to create body to the fabric, durability and warmth, then fully lined with a bright blue silk lining.



I only had enough fabric for three of these bolero's. So whoever buys one of these will truly own a piece of unique design! I have already sold the size 10 (or US sz 6), so the only other sizes I have left are sizes 12 and 14 (or US sz 8 and 10).

Penelope Red at The Rocks Market: 27th & 28th Feb 2010

Penelope Red will be trading at The Rocks Markets this coming Saturday 20th and Sunday, 21st of February, 2010. The trading hours are 10am til 5pm.

I am planning to have a new Wrap Around Halter Top style in bright red! I will hopefully post this new style on the blog by the end of the week.

The Penelope Red Sweetheart Blouse: A new design!

Last week, I finished a new design: The Penelope Red Sweetheart Blouse.

It is based on the same loose waist/hip fit of the Monet Pleated Neck Blouse, and of course, the bust area has been re-designed, into a lovely sweetheart neckline.



I love the bright colours on the print- bright orange, aqua, red, cream, on a brown background. Placing the bright orange fabric around the bust, and keeping the darker print around the waist, creates an even and flattering silhouette- and you don't even need to have a trim waist for it!



This top is great for the warmer months. Wear it with your favourite jeans, shorts or a skirt- a mini could look really cute with this! I have used gold buttons where the shoulder straps attach to the bust area, so dress it up with some chunky gold jewellery.



I plan to create other sizes in this top- each with different contrasting orange fabric prints. Can't wait!



The blouse is a loose fit from the underbust down. Pleats are at the centre front and centre back. An invisible zip is on the side. You can also very easily wear a strapless bra underneath this top (I am wearing one in these photos)- or some bra straps will fit this style as well.

New Penelope Red Scarf Design: Chinese Flowers

I have posted a new scarf design in my Etsy shop. The Penelope Red Chinese Flowers scarf has been made from various beautiful fabrics, including silk, cotton, and linen blends.


I love mixing colours, textures and prints together, in unusual combinations- my friend's say it is my trademark. Making these scarves gives me the opportunity to play around with this even more.


I usually use one of the fabrics in the scarf to inspire the rest. So, for instance, in this scarf, I used the red Chinese-style printed cotton, to help determine the other fabrics and colours to use. The print has beige, cream and blue included in it.

All Penelope Red scarves are one-of-a-kind. No scarf is exactly the same as the next.

My Penelope Red Pleated Neck Blouse

Recently, I have had a little spare time to catch up on some sewing for ME! I adore bright prints and colours, and when I saw this fabric, it just screamed out to me!



I decided to make my own version of the Penelope Red Pleated Neck Blouse, as the fabric was so light and soft, and it will be perfect for summer!

I bought this fabric from Tessuti Fabrics, a few months ago. It is a beautiful 100% silk twill.






As I had planned to wear this top with some bright red pants, and my favourite colour is red (obviously!), I chose to highlight the underbust seam with a bright red satin binding.




Since the fabric is silk, I wanted a beautiful finish, so I completed all seams as french seams. I then bound the facing edge too, with satin binding- so no over-locking was needed at all.



A great summer top to wear with jeans, or my fabulous red pants (shown in the previous photos), or a mini skirt... I can't wait for summer now!

This scarf has been made from several beautiful fabrics, including a Japanese printed cotton in black, white and red; a silk/linen blend in bright red; and two black silk satins- one of these is used for the lining.


Measurements: 18cm x 155cm (7 x 61 inches)




As you can see from the photos, there are numerous ways to drape and wear this scarf. Penelope Red scarves can make any outfit come to life! Even a plain black top and a pair of jeans.





Blue Nightingale Scarf:


This scarf has been made from various fabrics including: bright blue silk; printed silk satin; printed cotton stripe; oriental embroidered silk satin; and black silk satin for the lining.



Measurements: 21cm x 155cm (8.5 x 61 inches)







I especially love the above look! You can do this with either scarf, as they are both long and soft enough.
